This application allows a HL7 v2 Pathology message, orders or results, to be validated for conformance with one or more of the implemented conformance profiles. The implemented conformance profiles are NPAAC RICR5, ADRM 2021.1
, RCPA SPIA Guidelines
and RCPAQAP Rules for electronic submission of EQA Results
. Which conformance profiles will be available for use and can be used in validation depends on the message type and options selection. See "Help" and "User Guide" for information on how to use this service.
Please note that while the operation of this application requires that the HL7 v2 messages you provide are sent to the backend server for analysis, they are not retained there. As the messages pass through various components of the infrastructure to reach the validation server and the results are returned to your browser for display, the messages are not retained in any of the components in the path. We very strongly advise against validating HL7 v2 messages that contain Personally Identifiable Information using this service.
The Pathology HL7 v2 Message Validator Application supports the validation of Pathology HL7 v2 messages, Order and Results, for conformance with the expectations of the NPAAC RICR5 Standard, ADRM 2021.1 Standard
, SPIA Guidelines v4.0
and, for EQA Results messages, the RCPAQAP EQA Programmes
.
Click the References button in the main window to see the list of supported validation profiles and references to the standards, guidelines and resources used in validation.
The application is designed to load a file containing a Pathology Orders (ORM^O01) or Results (ORU^R01) HL7 v2 delimited message, submit this message for validation according to the profile and profile option selections, retrieve the validation report and make that report available for viewing in a separate web browser window or for downloading to the local file system for off-line viewing.
Click on the "Choose File" button to use the operating system's file browser to locate a file which you wish to validate in the file system accessible to the web browser. This action will cause the "Load Message" button to be enabled.
Once the file is chosen, click the "Load Message" button to load the file and display its content in a box below the action buttons for inspection if required. This action will cause the "Validate Message" button and the appropriate set of Profile Options checkboxes to be enabled. Importantly, the "SPIA UoM", the "SPIA Ref Int" and the EQA checkboxes are only enabled if the message is a Results message.
Checking the "ADRM" checkbox will cause the validation for conformance with the expectations of the ADRM 2021.1 to be performed.
Checking the "RCPA SPIA" checkbox will cause the validation for conformance with the expectations of the SPIA Guidelines v4.0 that terms and codes from RCPA SPIA for e-Requesting or for Reporting terminology sets are used to be performed.
Checking the subordinate checkboxes, "SPIA UoM" and "SPIA Ref Int", which are only enabled for Results messages and only if the "RCPA SPIA" checkbox is also checked, enables validation for conformance with the expectations of the SPIA Guidelines v4.0 for Reporting with respect to the use of RCPA SPIA-defined units of measure and reference intervals that may be applicable to specific tests.
Checking the "QAP EQA" checkbox, which is only enabled for Results messages, enables validation for conformance with the expectations of the RCPAQAP EQA Programmes.
Checking the "EQA UoM" or the "EQA UCUM" checkbox, which are only enabled for Results messages and only if the "QAP EQA" checkbox is also checked, enables validation for conformance with the expectations of the RCPAQAP EQA Programmes for the presence of units of measure and the use of UCUM units of measure.
Clicking on the "Validate Message" button will submit the message for validation for conformance with the expectations of the selected validation profiles.
Once validation is completed, which may take a noticeable period of time proportional to the size and complexity of the HL7 v2 message, the "View Report" and the "Download Report" buttons will be enabled. The validation report will be available for viewing in a separate web browser window or for downloading to the local file system for off-line viewing.
Clicking on the "View Report" button will open the validation report in a separate web browser window.
Clicking on the "Download Report" button will download the validation report to the local file system, which may be performed automatically and use the web browser-configured download directory or may require user interaction through an operating system-specific dialog.
Clicking on the "Help" button will display a dialogue box with this text. Pressing the Escape key (Esc), clicking on the "Close" button inside the dialogue box or clicking anywhere outside the dialogue box will close the dialogue box.
Clicking on the "User Guide" button will open the PDF user guide with more information about this application in a new web browser window.
Clicking on the "References" button will display a dialogue box with references to business resources used to develop this application and the validation service which is uses. Pressing the Escape key (Esc), clicking on the "Close" button inside the dialogue box or clicking anywhere outside the dialogue box will close the dialogue box.
Clicking on the "About Report" button will open the PDF document in which the validation report is discussed at length, with references to the standards and guidelines used, discussion of commonly observed issues and solutions, if any. The intent of this document is to provide the user with elaboration on the reasons certain diagnostics are produced and what the user can do to eliminate these diagnostics by modifying the message, if appropriate / possible.
